Mysonne Reiterates Frank Ocean CriticismMysonne took some heat for his criticisms of Frank Ocean and Ocean announcing his bisexuality prior to his album release. In an interview with VladTV, Mysonne reiterated his stance on Ocean's announcement.
"Well, basically what I said was I felt that he made a coward's move," he said. "When you come into this industry, we're all faced with dilemmas and we're all faced with choices and I think when you take a choice to deceive a fan base based on whatever it is, whatever it is that you represent - if you represent it, say, 'This is what I represent.' Don't wait until you get a fan base following you because they think you represent something else and then say, 'Oh, by the way, I just happen to be bisexual or gay.' Especially as an R&B artist."
"I felt that the timing, also, made it real suspect to me," he continued. "Oh, now you wait until your album's about to drop?"
"It had nothing to do with your sexuality or anything," Mysonne added. "If a homosexual had made the same statement and had came out and he had fooled every gay person to following him and said, 'You know what? I'm straight now.' I just think it's deceit and I just think it's cowardice, and I think for us not to acknowledge what it is, or for us to praise that, gives off the wrong sense of what we stand for. It gives off the wrong message."
"The Hip Hop community is already under fire, and when we keep using these cheap gimmicks and strategies to sell records, and build up [buzz], it just demeans the quality of what we do," he said.
