Donna Summer Dies At 63Celebrated "Queen of Disco" Donna Summer has passed at the age of 63 after a battle with cancer. The legendary singer had kept her illness relatively quiet and the news of her passing came as a shock to the entertainment community. Summer was one of the most significant voices of her era and one of the few disco stars who's fame and acclaim transcended the genre.
Summer's hits ranged from the dancefloor classics "The Last Dance" and "Hot Stuff," to sultry bedroom music like "Love To Love You, Baby" and Top 40 pop like "She Works Hard For the Money." Her work has been sampled and covered by numerous artists across numerous genres.
On Twitter, musicians reacted to the news of the diva's passing.
"This cant be tru. i cant believe this RIP Donna Summer. at a lost 4words," tweeted superproducer Timbaland.
"I'm getting tired of these 3 keys...RIP this time to Donna summer an amazing trailblazer!" Q-Tip tweeted, referencing the rash of legendary musicians that have passed recently. "RIP Donna Summers!!!!!!!!! You were truly a game changer!!!" tweeted Mary J. Blige.
Quincy Jones produced some of the singer's best work, and shared his condolences on her passing. ‏"Rest in Peace dear Donna Summer. Your voice was the heartbeat and soundtrack of a decade."
