''My Music Has Always Been Anti-Gangsta'' 4:30PM ET June 8th, 2012 Contributor : Martin James A Rocky Williform Company Rapper Ice-T became one of the pioneers of gangsta rap in the late 1980s. But the West Coast legend explained to Sway Calloway that he never made music to promote the gangsta or gang lifestyle. For Ice-T, the music was about commenting on the social ills--not glorifying them.
“If you listen to my music, my music has always been anti-gangsta,” Ice explained. “I use the gangsta persona, but at the end of most of my records I end up dead. Or I’m telling somebody, ‘Hey if this is the road you’re gonna take, this is where you’re gonna end.’"
"Anybody who’s been in it can’t speak on it like it’s nothing," he continued. "My thing has never been to promote drug dealing or hustling or whatever. It’s always had another side to it.”
